New places to explore

Alaska It was during one of those dark days of February that we knew we needed something to lift our spirits. Dianne’s mother was native Alaskan and Dianne has a cousin living in Anchorage, Alaska. We decided to give her cousin a call to see if we could visit to experience Dianne’s ancestral heritage.
Her cousin’s advice was to take an inland cruise from Vancouver, British Columbia to Whittier, Alaska with Holland America. Fortunately, we were able to get a one-way passage in June and stayed with her cousin for six days in Anchorage.
Alaska is primitively beautiful. The lush, green, gorgeous growth of a raw but stunning paradise enlivened our hearts as we saw the divine everywhere. The natives realize it too. They don’t allow billboards to obstruct the amazing view.
We were there during the time of the midnight sun. While playing cards in the evening it felt like 7:30 pm when it was really 10:30 pm! Even at 11 pm it felt like dusk and there was still light enough to see life in the streets. People would set their clocks to let them know when to go to bed!
So we did come back sleep deprived. Even too much light can disorient our fragile beings. We need some darkness to soothe our senses so we can prepare for the next coming of the light.

Sr. Dianne on the move

Sr. Dianne is recovering very well from a total knee replacement last January. The surgery was originally scheduled for mid-April, but to her delight there was a cancellation at the beginning of the year. She was more than ready to proceed!
Now Sr. Dianne is without pain medication and doing physical therapy three times a week. She was comforted from the prayers
and cards she has received. Thank you. -
Sr. Laura’s recovery

Thank you for your thoughtful kindness during my recovery from the car accident. Your card lifted my spirit.
The good news is that I have progressed from a cast to a walking boot to now no support. I continue to walk cautiously, but it has been wonderful to get on my feet again and enjoy the freedom of mobility.
The accident occurred last August when I was driving to the grocery store. While having a heart attack, an elderly woman accidentally stepped on her gas pedal and hit the right side of my car. I spun around a couple of times before stopping, resulting in a broken ankle and several fractured ribs.
Prayer did sustain me through a painful recovery. I truly believe that prayer can change the balance of love in the universe. I experienced your prayers through peace in my soul during this healing process and kindness from the caregivers in the hospital and during rehab. That affection carried me through this stressful time.
You are and always will be in my grateful heart and prayers,
Laura
